In short: Maintena keeps billing refreshingly simple. You pay one price per site, and your card is added through a secure Stripe checkout. Where self-serve billing is enabled for your account, you can change, pause or resume your plan whenever you like; on managed plans your Success Manager takes care of it for you. Your card details are handled by Stripe, so Maintena never stores your card number.
What it is
Billing is how you pay for Maintena and how we keep track of which sites you are monitoring. There are no confusing tiers to decode and no long contracts to sign. You pay per site, and the more sites you add, the better the per-site rate.
Everything runs through Stripe, a trusted global payments provider. Stripe handles the card entry, the charge, and the receipts. Maintena only records the parts we need to show you: your plan, how many sites you are covering, and light card details like the brand and last four digits so you can recognise your own card.
Where self-serve billing is enabled for your account, you can see and manage all of this from the Billing tab in your dashboard. On managed plans, your Success Manager handles it for you.
How it works
Here is how billing is designed to work. Where self-serve billing is switched on for your account, you will do all of this yourself from the Billing tab. On managed plans, your Success Manager looks after it for you, so you may never need to touch it.
One price per site
Your bill is based on how many sites you monitor. You choose the number of sites during onboarding, and you can add or remove sites later at any time. When you add sites, the price per site goes down, so a larger group of sites is cheaper each than a single one.
We do not quote exact figures here so that you always see the current numbers. For live pricing, see the pricing page on the Maintena website.
Secure checkout
When you start, you pick how many sites you want to cover and continue to a secure Stripe checkout page. You enter your card there, on Stripe's own hosted page, and Stripe confirms the payment. If you have a promotional code, you can enter it at checkout.
The moment your payment is confirmed, your account activates and your dashboard opens. Your card number stays with Stripe throughout. Maintena never sees or stores it.
Managing your plan
Where self-serve billing is enabled, the Billing tab is designed to let you do all of the following yourself, whenever it suits you.
| Action | What happens |
|---|---|
| Add or remove sites | Your bill adjusts automatically to the new number of sites. Adding a site anywhere in Maintena, including one added for you, updates your plan and price to match. |
| Change your plan | The change is prorated, so you only pay the difference for the time left in your billing period. |
| Cancel | Your subscription is set to stop at the end of the current period. You keep full access until then, so nothing is cut off early. |
| Resume | Change your mind after cancelling? Resume in one click and your subscription simply carries on. |
| Update your card | Add a new card or switch your default, all through Stripe's secure card entry. |
| Edit billing details | Update the name, email and address that appear on your invoices. |
| Download invoices | Get a PDF for any charge, straight from your billing history. |
If you remove sites
If you reduce your number of sites below what you are currently monitoring, we will ask you to choose which sites to keep. The sites you keep stay fully monitored. The others are parked: they stop being monitored and any open alerts on them are tidied up and closed. Nothing is deleted, and you can bring a parked site back whenever you have a free slot again.
What keeps your subscription accurate
Stripe tells Maintena about every payment event, such as a successful renewal or a cancellation, and we keep your account in step automatically. These messages are verified so that only genuine updates from Stripe are ever accepted, and each one is processed only once. The result is that your dashboard always reflects your true, current status.
Keeping access
As long as your subscription is active, or in a short grace period while a payment retries, your dashboard stays open as normal. Access is only paused if a subscription has genuinely lapsed or been cancelled, and even then you can resubscribe at any time to pick straight back up.
What you need to do
On managed plans, your Success Manager handles the billing setup for you, so you may not need to touch any of this yourself.
Where self-serve billing is enabled for your account, setup is designed to be quick:
- During onboarding, choose how many sites you want to monitor.
- Continue to the secure Stripe checkout and enter your card. Add a promotional code here if you have one.
- That is it. Your account activates as soon as payment is confirmed, and your dashboard opens.
After that, everything above lives in the Billing tab: add or remove sites, change your plan, update your card, edit billing details, or download invoices whenever you need them.
If you are unsure which applies to you, just ask your Success Manager or open a support ticket.
Good to know
- Your card is safe. Card entry and storage happen entirely within Stripe. Maintena only keeps light details like your card's brand, last four digits and expiry so you can tell your cards apart.
- Cancelling is gentle. A cancellation always takes effect at the end of your current period, never mid-period, so you never lose paid-for time.
- Plan changes are fair. Upgrades and downgrades are prorated, so you only pay for what you actually use in each period.
- Your invoices are always available. Download a PDF receipt for any charge from your billing history at any time.
- Pricing lives on the website. For current per-site pricing and volume discounts, see the Maintena pricing page rather than relying on a number quoted here.
On the roadmap
Self-serve billing is fully built, but it is being switched on account by account rather than all at once. A few notes on what that means today:
- Self-serve checkout activates per account. When self-serve billing is enabled for your account, you will manage everything from the Billing tab as described above. Until then, on managed plans your Success Manager takes care of billing for you.
- Billing emails. Maintena does not yet send its own payment or renewal emails. Stripe still sends you standard payment receipts, and your general email notifications are handled separately.
- Cost estimates when changing plans. The figure shown before you confirm a plan change is a close estimate. Your final invoice from Stripe is the definitive amount.
